Winner Winner Chicken Dinner @ NE Sculpture I Gallery Factor

November 1 - November 24, 2019

Opening: November 1-3 @ Gallery Factory

Gallery Hours: 12-5pm Thurs, Fri, Sat or by appt

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner was a show by Mary Johnson and Andrew MacGuffie in NE Sculpture | Gallery Factory.

Mary Johnson is a sculptor whose use of reclaimed and re-purposed material speaks to the interconnection between everyday actions, unseen labor, and environmental consequences. Through acts of washing, stitching, and mending, Johnson's work renders visible how complex relations are created through the accumulation of small gestures.

Since receiving her MFA from the University of Minnesota in 2007, her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows regionally and nationally. As an arts educator, she has worked with multiple non-profits around the twin cities, and has been commissioned by both the DNR and Hudson RiverFest to create large outdoor public sculptures utilizing river clean-up materials. These sculptures highlight the impact of our everyday actions on our precious public waters.

Andrew MacGuffie asks, "what is a sculpture but an idea made real?  A transformation of the minds eye into a tangible result.  As important as it is to think it is also necessary to act.  It is at this intersection of thought and action that I find my Best self, when thought and action merge into one, and I begin to see the realization of my ideas.  It is here where I often realize that the idea wants to be something else, and it is important for me to be involved, there are no unimportant decisions.  Everything we do is important, especially the little things"
