Bio:
Savior Allen-Knight is a painter from Chicago, Illinois, currently residing in the Twin Cities. After graduating from Hamline University, St. Paul, Minnesota with degrees in Philosophy and Education, he sought life experiences in the workforce via the higher education route. These formative experiences, in a more traditional office setting to support young adult learners, continue to shape his burgeoning theories on love, humanity and his passion for lifelong learning.
Over the years of his emerging artistic career, the collective vulnerability shared and the faith in his vision returned by the local communities have fueled his passion for creating work within and beyond conventional gallery spaces. Outside of pursuing his curiosities as an artist, he spends much of his time in nature, reading, writing poetry, and enjoying time with friends and family.
Artist Statement:
My work attempts to study the relationship of the mind and will as distinct parts of the soul through the body. With attention to emotional expression through gestures as a smaller window in, I use color and texture to attune the viewer's eyes to the state of the internal lives of these figures. My intent is to allow the audience to muse and reflect over the quality of their inner lives.
Using black and brown figures and influences from great poets like Langston Hughes, Dante Alighieri, and Marvin Gaye, the painting I compose share the overarching theme of human’s awareness of their imprecise nature as they still dream about living a “good” moral life and love in serious dialogue with history’s visceral reactions.
