Watch Sara Hanson reveal the doll mould wall and explain how to submit Message Portraits and Time Capsules to her Bio Scenic Time Machines! Originally filmed as a livestream from NE Sculpture's Facebook page on April 30, 2020 at 7pm CST.
Sara Hanson recorded live with her show "Sara Hanson's Bio Scenic Travel Machine & You Are A Real Doll" at NE Sculpture | Gallery Factory. Sara shows viewers her Space Junk and Orbital Debris sculptures as well as her Bio Scenic Time Machines and doll and doll mould walls. She then takes viewers on a tour of her WOW Mobile Metal Lab. Finally, she does a metal pour in several sand moulds. Originally a livestream from NE Sculpture's Facebook page at 7pm on Friday, May 15, 2020.
Sara Hanson’s Bio Scenic Travel Machine landed in NE MPLS to research life on Earth and to share information, experiences and remnants from its travels. The rover collected Message Portraits of you, your message and the rover in an interplanetary space-factory-scape of dolls, doll molds, space junk, and orbital debris cast in metal. "You Are a Real Doll" invites you to delight in, imagine and share experiences, stories, memories – examine, investigate and survey the histories and cultural connotations of the doll.
Virtual Adjustments
In lieu of visiting the gallery in person, Sara Hanson and NE Sculpture | Gallery Factory hosted opportunities for virtual participation for Sara Hanson’s Bio Scenic Travel Machine: Message Portraits from the Casket Arts Factory in Northeast Minneapolis.
Throughout the duration of the exhibition, anyone could send in photos of themselves to info@bioscenic.com to create Message Portraits, which can be sent to anyone—friends, family, or “unspecified recipients.” These portraits approximated the live, physical experience of having one's photo taken in the Gallery by Hanson’s Bio Scenic Travel Machine.
