Mikha Dominguez aka Mikhamik (Caracas, May 12, 1987) is a Queer non binary latinx Venezuelan visual artist, photographer and sculptor who has resided in Minneapolis since 2014. Their early career was spent working in the Venezuelan national television industry where he experienced state censorship under the dictatorship of President Hugo Chávez. In response, Dominguez left Venezuela, and joined the more than six million other Venezuelans who fled the militaristic and authoritarian Chávez regime.
Using techniques drawn from self-portrait, collage, make-up, performance art, photography and sculptures Dominguez explores themes of gender, the body, religion and the reinterpretation of reality. He invents a new visual language by superimposing everyday elements onto the human body.
Under the artistic name "Mikhamik" has developed themes on sexuality, gender, religion, and pop culture in their work. The use of non-conventional materials reconfigures the sense of aesthetics and the meaning of the figures, characters and their objects in the universe created by @mikhamik
''I have always used art to represent a new reality by putting elements together to give them a new use and meaning. In my work I seek to capture a side of the human being that is not visible, a hidden and vulnerable side that is revealed between colors, textures and strokes.
"I believe that art allows us to escape from underprivileged realities and allow us to represent a unique universe. Art is valuable in itself because it gives value to the artist and the subject."
"Art is knowledge and knowledge changes our perception of the world around us.''
"All my characters are queer, all my characters find strength in their authenticity."
As an Artist I want to show the world how diverse, different, personal and emotional this transition sometimes can be.
As an artist I want to show the diversity of the lgbtqia+ community, just with a splash of color, different materials, shapes, sizes.
