Mary Jane Mansfield is intrigued with the flow of energy in life. Her interests in both physical and metaphysical realities are the driving forces behind her eclectic body of work. She is interested in a concept of the space between and overlapping these worlds. In drawing, she is following the energy of a line that flows from an ethereal space onto the page.
Jennifer Nevitt exposes armature, plays with color fields, weaves veils and shrouds to center the body as threshold and its need for nurturing space. Material is central to her work. She uses materials that are easily located in the natural world such as, clay, iron, wood, wool, paper and charcoal. Used in unison she can harness their qualities and create an environment, a stage that is set for an audience. A place where you can question and understand through the body’s connection to haptic perception, embodied cognition, and proprioception.
