Patrick Gelen

Bio

Patrick Gelen is a sculptural artists born in Buffalo NY, he received his BFA from Alfred

university with a focus in metal casting and glass blowing.

Artist Statement

My work is mainly an exploration of the emotional energy of the human experience. By

using cast metal and glass on varying scales I hope to connect viewers to feelings of wonder

and awe that become less and less common as we age. My work is both a reflection of the

energy I see in the world and a response to it, the focus of my practice lately has been focused

on the figure and its abstraction as well as on the concept of objecthood, how and why objects

can hold meaning. There is also a focus on technical skill and process which is driven by

material experimentation. The importance of metal and glass as materials is in their versatility and

elemental beauty, as well as the traditions and community surrounding them. Studying these

materials has exposed me to the creative power of these communities which inspires my practice

to this day while exploring psychedelic and surreal aesthetics that resonate within the human

subconscious.
