Patience Zalanga is a freelance photographer from Minneapolis-St.Paul, Minnesota. For the last six years, her photography has focused primarily on social movements and uprisings in the United States. Deeply affected by events in Ferguson, Missouri, Patience began to document her local community starting with protests of the killing by police of Philando Castile in St. Paul, Jamar Clark in North Minneapolis and most recently, George Floyd in South Minneapolis.
Patience’s work has been featured in a number of publications including TIME, The New York Times, Minnesota Public Radio, NPR, BuzzFeed News, and AJ+. In 2020, she was a recipient of the Walker Art Center’s Community Artist Award and her most recent work is being published by the French magazine, FemmePhotographes.
When Patience is not freelancing she works part time at a homeless shelter that serves single adult men and women in South Minneapolis.
