“Resurrection of Voices" is a visual representation of the enduring struggle for justice and the power of collective memory in the face of systemic oppression. The skull, an emblem of mortality, reminds us of lives lost to racial injustice, while the vibrant roses symbolize the resilience and beauty of life that persists even in the darkest times. The twisted trees, reaching out like hands, represent the intertwined roots of history and the ongoing fight for change. The spoon holding the cherry, a delicate balance, reflects the fragile yet vital efforts to preserve hope and joy amidst adversity. The architectural structure at the center symbolizes the institutions that must be reformed to honor those who have fallen and to build a future where justice prevails. The reflective water beneath suggests the need for deep introspection and a clear vision for a more equitable world. The night sky, enveloping the scene, represents the vast and often unseen struggles, yet it is pierced by stars—the voices of the oppressed shining through, demanding to be heard."*
This narrative ties the elements of the painting to themes of social justice, memory, and the ongoing struggle for equity, making it a fitting homage to the impact of George Floyd's death and the broader movement it has fueled.
